Monthly Spotlight: American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

September is Suicide Prevention Month and that is why we chose to give the spotlight to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP)! AFSP is a voluntary health organization that gives those affected by suicide a nationwide community empowered by research, education and advocacy to take action towards this leading cause of death. AFSP is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide. They strive to create a culture that is smart about mental health by engaging in funding scientific research, educating the public about mental health and suicide prevention, advocating for public policies; and lastly, supporting the survivors of suicide loss and those affected by suicide. AFSP is a excellent resource to educate yourself and others about suicide. If you are struggling or you know someone that is, AFSP can help you find treatment or a support group if needed. With that said, if you are in crisis or even just struggling with suicidal thoughts you can call a crisis hotline at 800-273-8255 or text TALK to 741741. We stand with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in their mission to provide research, education, and advocacy to take action towards suicide! Check out our content the rest of the month as we advocate for suicide prevention.
