Monthly Spotlight 2022: Black Mental Health Alliance

Every month for the year of 2022 we are highlighting and donating to a different mental health organization in which we fully support and stand by. This month, for Black History Month we decided to give the spotlight to the Black Mental Health Alliance (BMHA). BMHA is a nonprofit organization based in Baltimore, Maryland and was founded in December of the year 1983. BMHA strives to continuously support the mental health and overall well-being of the Black community with their mission in developing, promoting, and sponsoring educational forums, training and referral services. Their vision is to create an “equitable, respectful, and compassionate society by showcasing adequate and efficient mental health care to motivate children, youth, adults, and families of Black communities to strive for and embrace their best life”. After joining BMHA, you are able to connect with clinicians who can give potential clients resources through BMHA’s referral database. This gives an opportunity for clinicians to gain culturally relevant educational growth that is much needed in today’s society especially in the behavioral health space. BMHA’s clinicians offer a safe space and opportunity to have patient-centered care while having consideration for black culture and history. As a direct result of joining BMHA, you also get to join a like-minded community which supports and serves the overall Black community as well as organizations throughout the area by providing several diverse workshops and forums. We commend BMHA for their successful history of providing “school-based mental health services, youth tobacco education and prevention, fatherhood initiatives, summer camp, after-school programs, and HIV/ AIDS prevention initiatives for the Black community”. Join us as we stand with the Black Mental Health Alliance in their drive to “encompass historical and race-based trauma, structural racism, cultural competence, mental health stigma, mental health, and overall health in the Black community”.
